Famke Janssen was born today on November 5, 1964 in the Netherlands. She may be Dutch, but also speaks fluently English and French! She traveled to the USA in 1984 to begin a carreer as a Fashion Model. When she retired from being a model in the early 90s she turned to acting and had several roles as guest stars on series, including Star Trek the Next Generation.
Her next major role was in the 1995s GoldenEye Bond film alongside Pierce Brosnan, as the villian Xenia Onatopp. After competing with the idea of being typecast as pretty face she took on more supporting roles, like The Faculty.
In 2000, she would work once again with Patrick Stewart when she took on the role of Jean Grey and later Phoenix in the X-Men film series. She moved on to a much more varied career after that series, but would return twice to reprise her role.
To celebrate her amazing work as the character, we wanted to share our favorite Jean Grey moments in the comics!

X-Men #30 (1994) In the life of Jean Grey, one moment sometimes is all you get. Through all the pain, death, and issues, finally Jean and Cyclops are married in a massive comic book filled with figures from the other Marvel comic books, so vast that it had appearances from some heroes who were lost in time, and shouldn’t even have been able to attend! |

All-New X-Men #1 (2012) With the X-Men’s devotion to Xaviers cause waivering, and Beast on his last legs, he turns to the Yesteryear’s X-Men, pulling them from the past to the present alongside their current versions. It’s interesting to see them possed against one another, and to see the distance and growth of characters, like Marvel Girl, a.k.a. Jean Grey. |
