Zuiderdam, a line from Holland America is the first Cruise ship to bring guests back to Ocho Rios in Jamaica following the destructive events of Hurricane Melissa.
While guests were able to enjoy the beauty of the islands, and the beaches, Holland America brought nearly 5,000 boxes of relief supplies, which included food, water, bedding, clothing, and mattresses.
While Holland America Line knows, “that tourism is vital to Jamaica’s recovery…” they wanted to do more then support the local economy, but support the very people that make the island so amazing.
Additionally, Thirty volunteers from Holland America Line’s shipboard and shoreside teams partnered with the nonprofit Chukka Foundation to help perform a beach cleanup in Seville. On board the ship, the guests and crew even took part in a 5K walk aboard the ship to raising money for Direct Relief’s Hurricane Melissa relief fund.
If you want to help support these regions you can give money directly to the relief fund Here, or contribute to their tourism and commerce with a cruise Here.
