Sundance Hosts Tribute To Redford and Creates Inaugural Luminary Award

Sundance Institute has announced details for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival’s annual fundraiser, which will celebrating the Sundance Institute, and provide a tribute to the founder, Robert Redford.

The fundrasier will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley in Utah.

The event will honor Robert Redford’s legacy, vision, and enduring mission to support independent storytellers. As a continuation of the Sundance Institute’s honoring of Redford, they will be creating and establishing the inaugural Robert Redford Luminary Award that will recognize and celebrate individuals who have, “…in a visionary way, used their resources, insights, and reach to create possibility where there wasn’t, thus doing their part to make the world a better place.”

Being honored, and receiving the Robert Redford Luminary Award, Gyula Gazdag is a screenwriter, director, and professor emeritus of UCLA. He has been named one of the 10 best film teachers in America. Gazdag has also been the creative advisor for the Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs since 1994, as well as the artistic director for the Directors Lab since 1997.

Additionally, during the event they will be also honoring and giving the Robert Redford Luminary Award to Ed Harris as well, who has a career of five decades in which he was a four-time Academy Award nominee, two-time Golden Globe winner, and Emmy nominee. Since 2002, he has also been a creative advisor for the Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs.

The 2026 Sundance Film Festival will be held from January 22, 2026 through February 1, 2026, in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. The at-home program will be available from January 29, 2026 through February 1, 2026.
