When we heard that Florida Man stories were coming to HBO and Max, we jumped at the chance to watch those awesome episodes. We love a good Florida Man story, and these are them. Find out more about them.
As always we break down our reviews into three categories, Story, Acting, and Overall. So let’s jump in!
Story 6/10
The Florida Man situation, which is well discussed in this series, is due to the State’s rules with regard to making it public every crime that was committed, and prevention of protecting the anonymity of people who were arrested.
Most States specifically prevent this information from getting out, due to protections guarenteed to criminals to be presumed innocent, and the fear that media about arrests would taint jury pools. That’s why most news in regular States either doesn’t list the perpetrator by name, or will only hear about a crime if it is witnessed by third parties, or is so ground shaking that it would be impossible to not make the news.
This series specifically takes a look at some of the most outlandish, and most infamous stories within the world of Florida Man stories. From Cannibals, all the way to Witches and Mermaids. Each story gets wilder and wilder, and is does a great job using professional comedian actors to dramatize the story for entertainment purposes.
Acting 6/10
The actors in this series are tasked with presenting the over the top performances of stories created by Florida criminals who make outlandish, drug fueled, or poor planned criminal antics.
Due to the fact that every episode is dedicated to a different crime, and the actors change every episode it’s hard to point to one specific story.
However, to give you an idea of the talent presented in this series, here are some of the names: Bobby Lee, Anna Faris, Ego Nwodim, Randall Park, Juliette Lewis. My favorite though is the whole show is narrated by the talented and much loved Stephen Root!
Overall 6/10
Much like the awesome series Drunk History, this series though deals more with modern history, and current events. If you love reenactment series, comedy representation of over the top stories, or just laughing, in many situations along with the subject of the story, then this is the show for you.
I do very much love the fact that the subject of the stories literally is right there to tell their side, and be a part of the journey.
Conner’s Final Thoughts
We can’t wait for the next season, and I can’t imagine they won’t bring a second season. It’s easy to tell these stories, and the cost appears to be pretty negligible.
