Pedro Pascal was born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal on April 2, 1975. He was born in Santiago Chile When he family and president of Chile, Salvador Allende, was overthrown Pascal’s parents were listed as enemies of the state and they fled Chile with then nine month old Pedro.
Eventually they came to the United States and Pedro was raised in San Antonio, Texas, followed by Orange County, California. In 1995, Pedro’s parents moved back to Chile and Pedro pursued acting and attended Orange County School of the Arts and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 1997.
The specific reason for going by Pascal instead of Balmaceda-Pascal, is a tribute to his mother after her death, and also due to Americans difficulty pronouncing Balmaceda.
He became active in theatre as early as 1999, but became successful in acting five years before making it to broadway in 2019 for King Lear. During his start he struggled with small acting roles, and small theater roles while also supporting himself as a waiter.
Pedro Pascal finally got his first real big break with his role of Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones, but most modern fans of him likely love him from The Mandalorian or The Last of Us. Me, my favorite role of his is hands down the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where he stared alongside other Marvel Movie Alum Nicholas Cage.
All that being said, Pascal has been tapped to take on the role of Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards in the third iteration of the Fantastic Four in the MCU’s first foray into the Marvel’s first family’s film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
With all of that in mind we thought it would be fun to talk about our favorite stories that feature Reed Richards!

Fantastic Four # 1 (1961) With the celebration of Pedro Pascal’s birthday, and the actor taking on the role of Mr. Fantastic, a.k.a. Reed Richards, we wanted to showcase the first time Mr. Fantastic was in the comics, and it’s in the first Fantastic Four comic book. In the book Mole Man and his monsters attack atomic plants and the Fantastic Four have to save the day. Is this the premise from the new film. I highly doubt it, but this book will give you the worlds first introduction to the team titled Marvel’s First Family. |
