Movies Of The Week For December 30, 2022

We never really do a one movie spotlight for the week, but outside of A Man Called Otto, which we covered last week see it Here, the only movie for us to cover releasing this week is Alice, Darling a suspense filled movie starring one of our favorite actresses Anna Kendrick… so let’s try to start his normally…

Alice, Darling – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 90%

When a couple of friends, played by Tiio Horn and Wunmi Mosaku, invite their friend Alice, played by Anna Kendrick, to a getaway for the celebration of a birthday, they had no idea what they were setting off in their friends’ life. Alice, afraid her boyfriend wouldn’t allow it, lies to him, played by Charlie Carrick, that it’s a work trip. Things start to go wrong though as Alice can’t relax and her boyfriend digs through her emails when he begins to suspect she is being untruthful. Now her abusive private life is revealed to her friends when Alice’s boyfriend shows up at their retreat.

If you have serious issues with abusive relationships, this movie is full of realistic depictions of the experience. Anna Kendrick is set to give her best performance of her career as reviewers are saying, but clearly those reviewers havn’t seen Mr. Right. But that’s an entirely different movie. This movie does push Kendrick to the depth of her acting ability and Kendrick shines through it. She has micro-responses to her trauma, triggers that she showcases, and has mastered a very dark and painful experience that many women face. It’s for this reason again I warn that if you have an issue with domestic abuse, then this movie is definitely one you should stick clear of.

However if you like suspense filled films, with realistic acting, and the amazing Anna Kendrick, then you should see this film.
