Movies For The Week Of February 21, 2025

Cleaner – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 39%

When a group of terrorists take over a party with 300 hostages, a window cleaner, who used to be a soldier, played by Daisy Ridley, now must suspend herself on the rather tall building if she is going to save the people, who just so happens to include her brother.

This has such a Die Hard vibe, or should I say Tower Man. Either way, while it ranks low on Rotten Tomatoes, I’m actually interested to see how this film shakes out over time.

Ex-Husbands – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 83%

When Peter, played by Griffin Dunne, is left by his long standing wife, played by Rosanna Arquette, he crashes his son’s bachelor party in hopes of overcoming his midlife crisis.

If you want a drama with serious notes of comedy, this film looks like it will fit the bill without taking itself too seriously, and playing too deep into the drama.

The Monkey – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 88%

Twin brothers, played by Theo James and Elijah Wood, find a mysterious wind-up monkey that kills off their family members. After surviving and escaping it, it now returns twenty-five years later to start again.

This is a silly horror film, but it’s based on a Stephen King short story, adapted by Osgood Perkins, and produced by James Wan. If you want a horror film, then this has a pretty good pedigree!

Old Guy – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When it’s time to replace the older guard, an aging hitman, played by Christoph Waltz, trains a prodigy in the field of killing, played by Cooper Hoffman. However, when the two realize that they both don’t have a long shelf life, they partner against their boss.

I could watch Christoph Waltz in a film about the tradition of tea. He is captivating, fun, and charismatic. I will be watching this film too!

The Unbreakable Boy – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Scott and Teresa, played by Zachary and Meghann Fahy, learn that their child is autistic and has brittle bone disease. However, with the power of their child’s spirit, and Scott’s faith as his support system, they endure and find joy in their love for each other, and their child’s love of life.

I’m hesitant due to Levi’s recent issues in the media that this film will take a completely false stance about autism in this film, but I am trusting director Jon Gunn to reign in the on screen opinions of its cast. This film could have a lot of important messages, so we’ll just have to see once it’s out there.
