Movies For The Week Of August 16, 2024

Alien: Romulus – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

The return to the world of Alien, and closer in connection to the world of the original films. A group of colonizers, including Cailee Spaeny, in space stumble upon a space station and a monster that they weren’t prepare for.

We are excited to see this return to form. Will it be with the watch? Time will tell!

Close To You – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 44%

Sam, played by Elliot Page, is coming home for his father’s birthday, but the last time he was back was before his transition. There are a lot of unresolved issues, and an old love, all of which need to be taken care of.

I personally love that Elliot Page is getting work. I’d like to see him get just regular roles though, and not fall into transition trans pieces because I don’t want them to feel trapped in those roles. However, if this was a role close to their heart, far be it from me to stop them, but Elliot Page is so talented and more then their transition.

The Greatest Surf Movie In The Universe – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

After a virus whipes out the population in 2034 Dr John Fig creates a vaccine that works but erases the ability to surf and memories of surfing. Now with all the surfers gone and lost, Surf God Hughie must put together a team in a last ditch effort to save surfing.

It’s comedy, and I think it’s trying to be the next Team America World Police, but it’s hard to tell.

My Penguin Friend – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A lonely father, played by Jean Reno, isolates after a tragedy, however when he find a penguin covered in oil, he jumps to help. While his wife is agast at him bringing the bird home, and taking care of it as if it was family. Now the father finally has joy in his life again.

I’m so glad to see Jean Reno still acting. It’s been a while, and this film is heartwarming and designed for children, it’s still a drama and still definitely worth watching Reno within.

Skincare – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Hope Goldman, played by Elizabeth Banks, is about to launch her own skincare line, but when a rival opens their own at the same time, she thinks it’s sabotage, but who is trying to destroy her and can she find out who it is before it’s too late?

While the premise starts off with makeup, don’t let that fool you and take you off the fact that this is an actual mystery and thriller.
