Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of March 5, 2021

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on ”If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.


Boogie – Releasing in Theaters

Alfred “Boogie” Chin, played by Taylor Takahashi, wants to play in the NBA, but his parents keep trying to pull him back to reality so he can get into an elite college. Boogie has to find a way though to meet his parents wishes, while striving to obtain his own dreams as they make their way through high school and his life in Queens.

If you are looking for a coming of age film, and are a fan of basketball films, then you are going to be in for a solid film in Boogie.


Chaos Walking – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 20%

Todd, played by Tom Holland, lives in a world without women. Women one day all disappeared, but in spite of that Viola, played by Daisy Ridley, find herself stuck there. Now Todd has vowed to protect Viola in a world while learning his own place in his dark and dystopian world.

While it hasn’t done well with it’s recent ratings, this film is a darker journey for Tom Holland. Additionally who wouldn’t want to watch Spiderman walk into a movie with Rey. If you are looking for a sci-fi with Children of Men vibes, but don’t mind keeping it light, then this film can make a nice night for you.


Coming 2 America – Releasing on Streaming

It’s been almost 32 years since the the first film came out, now in the future, King Akeem, played by Eddie Murphy, finds out that he has a child in America. Now him and his trusted friend Semmi, played by Arsenio Hall, must head back to America to where he was before, to find his son and tell him of his heritage.

Whether this film will be a fun call back to the prior film, or it will be a cash grab capitalizing on the fame of the prior film. However the film will lean heavy into Murphy’s prior character work, as he will play likely the largest swath of characters he has ever played before. Even Arsenio hall gets into the fun of playing multiple characters. If you are looking for a comedy, with hints of family growth, then check out this film on Amazon Prime!


Dreamcatcher – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 40%

Dylan, played by Travis Burns, is a DJ who goes by the Moniker Dreamcatcher. He has worked hard to get to where he was, but on the edge of becoming a star, at the Cataclysm underground festival, a gruesome drug induced incident turns his life upside down.

If you are looking for a suspenseful horror themed movie for the week, then check out this film. It’s not reinventing the genre, so it won’t be a movie that will change your life, but it’s enough to distract you from the horrors of the real world as they spiral around you.


Raya and the Last Dragon – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 96%

Raya, played by Kelly Marie Tran, lives in the fantasy world of Kumandra. 500 years before the time of the movie, dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity from the Druun. Now the Druun is back though, and Raya has to find the last Dragon to help save the world.

Disney is releasing this film through Disney+ as a premium movie that you must pay an extra fee to get. That being said this film is probably the best of the films they have released in this manner. If you can only purchase one, then this would be the one. Kelly Marie Tran is having a resurgence in the industry for her voice over work in this film as well, and as deserved since she was attached and held back as a result of her work on the prior Star Wars series.
