Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of October 29, 2021

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.

Antlers – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A small town in Oregon is plagued with murders from a monster, which some believe is a spirit. A teacher, played by Keri Russell, helps her sheriff and brother, played by Jesse Plemons, investigate the horrible monster through it’s connection to her student, played by Jeremy T. Thomas, who knows more then he is sharing with them.

This horror film creates a really disturbing look at the monstrous Wendigo. If you are knowledgeable about the monster in Native American lore, then you might appreciate the story. Rural town, mythical monster routed in actual historical lore. Seems like a great combo for a last minute Halloween horror film.

Keyboard Fantasies – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

In 1986 Beverly Glenn-Copeland a black transgendered man created a self-released song called “Keyboard Fantasies.” While his life moved on, and he along with it, over 20 years in the future a fan in a foreign country reached out to him. Now he has a record label repping him, and time in obscurity finally over as he has found his place in the world at the young age of his 70s. Learn about his journey from youth to success at an older age.

If you love music, and are interested in the journeys of those who endeavor to be found and appreciated by an audience, then this story will be a valuable insight. Additionally, it would be lacking for me to mention that his story as of what he endured as a transgendered man is also something that should be heard. This film however has at least one enduring point, and that is that it’s never to late to be discovered, and to have hope.

Last Night In Soho – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 69%

Eloise, played by Thomasin McKenzie, wants to be a fashion designer, to feel connected to her loved era of 60’s London, visits SOHO to feel inspiration. While there she discovers that when she sleeps, she is transported into the body of the aspiring singer Sadie, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. It seems like a dream come true, but when things take a dark turn with Sadie’s paramor Jack, played by Matt Smith, Eloise seems crazy trying to catch a killer 60 years after the murder.

This feels a lot like a darker and time twisted version of Being John Malkovich. I will admit that the review is not great for this film, but if you like thrillers with a hint of supernatural aspects, then I highly recommend you check out this intense story this week!

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 67%

Jump into the world of the beloved Anime with their third film. Within the film, Japan’s greatest heroes must find out who and track down the person responsible chemical attack.

If you are a fan of Anime, usually you don’t get the big screen treatment, and are limited to the smaller screen. However thanks to My Hero Academia fans, this film is making it’s way to theaters in the USA!

Snakehead – Releasing on Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 80%

Sister Tse, played by Shuya Chang, is a person trying find a way into American. However, when she uses a human smuggler, a Snakehead, to get into New York, she finds herself connected to a criminal underworld. Can she achieve her real reasons for coming here while also dealing with the success of rising up through the criminal organization.

Definitely looks like an interesting story that has routes in a journey a lot of people are forced to take on a regular basis. If you are looking for something less fantastical, and more routed in traditional crime stories, then check this film out this week.
