Movies Releasing For The Week of August 16

47 Meters Down: Uncaged – Releasing 08/16/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 56%
47 Meters Down: Uncaged, the sequel to the 2017 film, follows a new group of four teenage divers, played by Corinne Foxx, Sistine Stallone, Sophie Nélisse, and Brianne Tju. The group explores sunken Mayan city much to their terror, they find that they are trapped by Great White Sharks. Now they must find a way to escape before they run out of air.

Unlike Open Water, this is a pure fiction story unsupported of the lie of being based on a true story. However, no matter how well, or more likely poorly written, the story is, Shark tales seem to do well. People like to assume that Sharks are these evil creatures just because they are good at what they do. I’m tired of shark phobia personally.

Blinded By The Light – Releasing 08/16/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 92%
The bollywoodesc film set in 1987. Javed, a Pakistani teenager, must break free from his life, once it is changed by the music and stylings of “The Boss”, when he discovers his collection of songs. Can he abandon everything he knows, is this who he was really meant to be?

There is a wealth of successful films that the US public just wont touch unfortunately, simply because they are foreign, and one market has been Bollywood. While that has changed more in recent years, I recommend people get out of their comfort zones a bit more and give this movie a try, as it is the highest rated movie of the week, now might be the time to give it a go.

Driven – Releasing 08/16/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 72%
John DeLorean, played by Marvel’s Lee Pace, story is told once again, but through the eyes of the relationship that he has with his friend, Jim Hoffman, played by Jason Sudeikis. Hoffman who was an ex-con pilot turned FBI informant, who when DeLorean was struggling to make ends meet, entrapped DeLorean into the cocaine trafficking ring that led to his downfall with the FBI.

I’ll be honest, I think sometimes Hollywood makes the same film over and over again, this being I believe the third DeLorean film in the last year. This film however feels a little more comedy styled, and I would watch Jason Sudeikis paint a barn. So I’ll be seeing this movie.

Good Boys – Releasing 08/16/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 81%
12 year old Max, played by Jacob Tremblay, and his friends, played by Brady Noon and Keith L. Williams, are invited to their first party as 6th graders. The fear sets over them that they will need to be able to know how to kiss, or be left behind. In a Superbad styled journey, the friends go on an adventure to learn how to kiss, but things clearly get out of control.

Frankly I feel like this movie has missed the 6th grade life, that feels so much closer to reality with Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade. This film makes up a bunch of scenarios that no 6th grader would experience for shock value, and for comedy styling. I feel like this is going to cause a bunch of awkward and poorly planned discussions between parents and children that will only lead minors down the road that they never were on in the first place. However, at least Will Forte is in the film as Max’s dad, but even he might not be able to give this raunchy film some heart.

The Divine Fury – Releasing 08/16/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 50%
The faith choices of a champion fighter is called into question, when stigmata’s appear on his hand. While he does not believe that there is a higher power, as a result of losing his father at a young age, Yong-hu, played by Park Seo-joon, finds himself stuck in a battle of spiritual evil that wants to hurt and cause pain.

I don’t know why this film has been rated so low, this sounds amazing. I love a good spiritually tied demon fighting film. Add in some martial arts, and we might get a stronger story driven version of “End of Days,” by an actor who can actually deliver the lead role, unlike Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ll be watching this film.
