Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of December 31, 2021

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.


Jersey – Releasing in Theaters

A father, played by Shahid Kapoor, strikes out to get his son a jersey of his dreams, but in doing so has his history as a failed cricket player brought back to the surface. Now he has to decide if he should try once more, or give up once again on his dream.

An underdog story with a lot of heart. If you don’t like foreign films, this one is not for you, but if you are willing to give it a try, it will likely be worth it.


Jockey – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 89%
On the eve of his final championship Jackson, played by Clifton Collins Jr., looks back on the journey he took as a Jockey. His celebration of his legacy is shifted however when a rookie arrives and claims to be his son.

If you are a fan of horse racing or the profession of being a Jockey, then this film might be up your alley. Otherwise, the unknown son story will hopefully pull you into this intimate and powerful film.


The Lost Daughter – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 93%

When visiting the beach, Leda, played by Olivia Colman, becomes obsessed with a young mother, her daughter, and her family. She spends her vacation confusing the modern-day with her past, and the choices that she made while she was a young mother.

This is a heavy psychological drama that is going to be pretty rough. That being said the reviews of the story are mainly positive. So if you are willing to commit to a heavy story, then this will be a good fit for the week!


Poupelle of Chimney Town – Releasing in Theaters

Lubicchi, voiced by Mana Ashida, lives in a world of smoke cast off from his town’s chimneys. When Lubicchi meets Poupelle, voiced by Masataka Kubota, he is able to seek the dreams his father promised him.

A cute looking Anime film that really looks interesting and engaging. If you are looking for something of a youth hero adventure story, then this film can hit that need this week.


Sensation – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 17%
A postman, played by Eugene Simon, stumbles upon the dream of being more then just a lowly civil servant. However, this top secret project to make him a superhuman takes a turn as things begin to become unsettling, and he questions his own reality.

This movie has not received a good rating or favorable reviews, but if you can look over that, and the movie’s obvious flaws, there is still an interesting story that is worth watching.
