Comic Book Spotlight: The Heart Hunter

Legendary Comics, who brought us great story adaptations of Kong, Godzilla, Dracula and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, has given us another world to dive into and indulge with beautiful illustrations and character designs and a compelling allegory for love in its many forms in life. This time around we checked out The Heart Hunter from Mickey George with art from V. Gagnon.

Basic Synopsis

In the Heart Hunter, we are introduced to a world under a curse and the rigid system of soulmates. Everyone has a heart outside of their body and cannot move on in life until they find their soulmate. Some never wish to find their soulmate and make their journey through to the end of life. It is one such person who hires Psyche, a heart hunter, to break the heart of their soulmate.

My Take

What I liked about this comic aside from the lush world building and beautiful illustrations, was the kind of love relationships explored against an accepted rule for society as a whole. There were characters who used their talents to heal and balance that came through along the journey. I like how the story showed the viewer how love and feelings of love can come to you in many forms and how they are accepted and reciprocated can have consequences in life.
I would recommend this comic for young adults and the adults who are young at heart. It is a well written reminder of how important it is to not just give love but to be able to receive it in return.
