With the conclusion of the fourth season of ghosts, it’s time for us to once again check out and review it and share our thoughts with you.
As always, our review breaks down the show by its story, acting, and overall. So let’s jump on in!
Story 7/10
The season starts off where it leaves off, featuring the fallout of Issac and Nigel’s nuptuals and his subsequent kidnapping by Patience, the Puritan ghost. Isaac’s abduction is quickly resolved and so is the introduction of Patience. an additional ghost in the ever-expanding storyline of the Woodstone Manor.
This season is an incredibly wide-ranging one as we cover topics like the ghost trap, once again, Jay starting up the barn restaurant, the release party for Sam and Isaac’s book, dealing with Sasappis virginity, solving a 30-year-old murder, And even testing the strength of Sam and Jay’s marriage by including a new person who can see the ghost.
The biggest and most interesting change to the lore of this season specifically deals with the exorcism of Jay’s Spirit from his body, the subsequent zombification of Jay, and the return of Elias Woodstone from hell as he has rised up through middle-management and now can take on human form in an effort to steal souls.
Once again, Jay’s inability to see and engage with the ghost has put him at a disadvantage as Elias Woodstone uses his newfound human form to trick Jay into signing a contract for his soul in exchange for the promotion and success of his restaurant, all of which is left on the cliffhanger of the ghosts and humans learning about the need to save Jay’s soul.
However, from an outside observer, it feels as if Jay will once again have to sacrifice his dreams, the restaurant, as a direct result and consequences of the Woodstone Manor ghosts. It’s starting to feel rough as Jay is non-stop the punching bag of the series, but if you can get over that feeling, the show has so many hilarious beats, jokes, and storylines this season.
Acting 9/10
The whole crew of Ghosts do an amazing job this season. I do want to reference them by name because of how well, they have found their roles and continued to present them in such an amazing way, specifically Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Rebecca Wisocky, Devan Chandler Long, Román Zaragoza, and Sheila Carrasco.
Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar, the human residents of woodstone banner, do a wonderful job playing off their dynamic relationship and ghosts within their household. It’s nice to see the return of Punam Patel, who plays Bela, Jay’s sister in the series. It’s just fun having another human in the household who knows about the ghosts but still can’t interact with them. For some reason though, it doesn’t give any support to poor Jay, who is constantly the butt of so many ghost related storylines. Another fun mechanic of her inclusion is the fact that she constantly lets intel slip to the ghost, stuff she is supposed to be keeping secret.
As for additional actors that have joined the show this season, it was great to see Ben Feldman join the show in one episode, as well as be referenced in a second, as another human who can see ghosts. It was also great seeing Deniz Akdeniz and Taylor Ortega come to the show as recurring characters, and potential love interests, to both Nigel and Sasappis.
Overall 8/10
Overall, it’s a great new season of ghosts. Again, it did feel like there was a lot going on and the slow release of episodes this season did kind of feel as if there was more than one season going on. It was a bit distracting from the continuity of the show. Lastly, the major of the hangar, while being pretty awesome and world building, metaphysically, felt more like a stinger bit, and not that it would become a major facet in the final episode of the season.
Conner’s Final Thoughts
So many major events and effects have happened this season for the ghost. It’s starting to become very, very weird that none of the main characters, or even ancillary character ghost, have been sucked off this season. How long is it going to take and what do these ghosts have to accomplish to be able to get to their final resting places.
