Comic’s Round Up: What SuperHero Would Drink Our Favorite Beer!

Today is National Beer Day, and to celebrate it, we wanted to share with you our favorite libation of the brews!

Before we delve into our hoppy friends, did you know that beer is considered one of the oldest forms of alcoholic drinks (it’s hard to nail down when it was created), dating back to China in 7000 BCE!

In addition to its age, beer is one of the most widely consumed alcoholic beverages on the globe, with over 188.79 million kiloliters consumed in 2018 alone! In terms more easily understood, that would be almost 300 billion bottles of beer. I’d hate to have to take that many beers off the wall, and pass them around.

While it’s still not the safest and smartest idea to fill the pubs in celebration, we wanted to talk about our favorite beers, and which characters in the comics would be likely to drink them.

Lindsay: Pineapple Cart by Golden Road
Tastes like freshly cut fruit and the California sun right in your hand. This light, crisp Wheat Ale is bursting with pineapple, strawberry, and blood orange flavors, finishing bright and refreshing.

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by the TMNT, due to their undying love of pizza and we all know pineapple is an amazing topping on pizza. Plus the 4% ABV makes it easy to throw back and still kick some butt! But obviously not drive the Turtle van because drinking and driving are illegal.

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a mug of Pineapple Cart.

TMNT: The Ultimate Collection Volume 1

If you are new to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or just feeling nostalgic, then pick up this comic to re-live the first seven comics and a Ralph one-shot! Turtle Power!

Jim: Tui East India Pale Ale
Partly his favorite beer due to the outlandish commercials, Tui is a New Zealand beer that is not too sweet, and not too bitter. It’s not a heavy ale, and is perfect for a hot day!

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by DCEU’s Aquaman. While the Aquaman of comic books is pretty caucasian, the actor of the movie-verse, Jason Momoa, is partly Polynesian, out of Hawaii, and while that does not make him a Maori out the gate, the character in the movie series is highly influenced by his connection to his Maori father played by Temuera Morrison. I can see the two characters catching up about Arthur’s adventures with a Tui in each hand!

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a tasty Tui!

Throne of Atlantis

While most of the DCEU’s Aquaman was drastically different from his comic book counterpoint, the story of Orm’s troops attacking the mainland was straight out of this book. Get a different, but similar take!

Monica: Ladyface Brewery’s Reyes Adobe Red
A barrel-aged dark and strong ale, Reyes Adobe Red, or Red is a heavy but flavorful beer with tropical fruit and grapefruit tastes to pull you in, but be careful, it’s strong.

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman. The reason this drink would likely be her choice is due to the fact, as an amazonian made from clay, it would take a strong drink to get her tipsy, and with an understanding of the finer things in life from a long-lived adventure, she’d only settle for the most flavorful and refined libation.

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a glass of Reyes Adobe Red.

JLA: A League of One

When a prophecy about a dragon destroying the Justice League surfaces, Wonder Woman risks her own life to fight the beast alone, so that the protectors of the world may survive. A story of strength, bravery, and selflessness.

By Christopher Moeller.

Eric: Einstök Icelandic White Ale
White Ale is like a Belgian Witbier, but spiced with orange peel and coriander. What makes this bear Icelandic is that they brewed it with Icelandic water, as if you were right there in Iceland drinking it.

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by Marvel’s Thor, due to heavy Scandinavian inspirations. It’s a lot lighter than Mead, so this is probably a pre-battle beer. The idea of filling a horn with Einstök is making me thirsty though!

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a bottle, or horn of Einstök.

Thor Vol. 3 #1

Thor in the comics is very different from Thor in the MCU, with the tethering to Donald Blake. It was this tether that saved Thor after the events of Ragnarok in the comics. When he returns, he brings with him Asgard on Earth. You’d think after summoning a whole kingdom in the clouds, Thor should be able to unwind with a beer!

Mistie: Asahi
A light crisp beer that pairs well, without overpowering, fried foods and sushi, this beer leaves you feeling refreshed and ready for a second!

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by Wolverine. While Wolverine has been shown to drink whatever is around to numb the years of pain, he feels it all, he likely would have first tried Asahi in Japan while searching for a way to manage and control the beast within himself.

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a mug of Asahi.

Wolverine Back In Japan

Logan’s past comes back to haunt him when his adoptive daughter’s relationship with the Silver Samurai puts her in danger of a war between the Hand and the Yashida Clan.

Clideen: Corona
Another light beer, this one pairs nicely with a slice of lime zesting the rim or dropped into the bottle. Great with fried tortillas, or to cool down a spicy dish.

This beer would be most likely the beer of choice by Deadpool. Just like Wolverine (of course), Wade Wilson isn’t picky about the beer that he throws in his mouth to numb the pain, no matter how much he needs to do so. That being said, it can get expensive, and when looking to step up to an import, Corona is a lower tier of that realm. He’d feel fancy while not splurging. Also, it pairs well with Chimichangas!

Here is a comic book regarding that character, that would be a good issue to pick up while enjoying a bottle, or bottles of Corona.

Cable & Deadpool #13

When a murder happens on the island of Providence, Deadpool is ready to play gumshoe and solve the case. The origins of why Deadpool loves Chimichangas so much is explained in the pages of this book!

By Fabian Nicieza with art by Patrick Zircher.

Whatever you call your beer, be it ale, stout, or Cerveza, pick up a drink (As long as you are over 21) and raise a glass in honor of National Beer Day!

Remember to drink responsibly, and never drink and drive! See you guys next week!
