Happy Birthday To Star-Lord’s Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota to a miner and market employee. During his youth he focused on wrestling and track. Before making it big, he worked as a ticket seller, and stripper before finding himself to be homeless in Maui of all places sleeping in a tent on the beach.

While in Maui he worked for a Christian missionary group awkwardly named “Jews for Jesus” and waited on tables at the Bubba Gump restaurant.

It was while working tables that he was discovered by Rae Dawn Chong for a horror film. From there he received roles in Everwood, The O.C., and even 2008’s Wanted. Where he got exceptionally lucky, was when he was cast as Andy Dwyer in the 2009 show Parks and Recreation.

Pratt’s character was so liked by people that he easily became a series regular and made him so popular that he was able to use it as a launching pad to such franchises like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Chris Pratt in recent years has not always been on the right side of the news, he ebbs and flows in directions that can polorize a lot of people. A lot of the things that have gotten him in trouble is half-thought out statements, and third-party statements about his character.

I’m not specifically coming out of her saying they are wrong, or he is a monster, but it’s hard to cancel a person until the facts are clear, so with it being his birthday, we are going to do what we still do, which is talk about his most popular character, Peter Quill and breakdown his history and most important comic books.

Marvel Preview #4 (1975)

The first appearance of Peter Quill, and the backstory of his rage against the aliens that killed his mother, and his resentment and cold demeanor cost him the chance to be a hero. But this version of Peter Quill wouldn’t let his failures stop his destiny, as he injured his fellow astronaut and stole the role of Star-Lord, and the super powers that came along with it.
Star-Lord #2 (2015)

While the first issue of this series showcases more on the character’s backstory, it’s too similar to the preview from over 40 years prior, with only slight differences. The main reason why we talk about this one here though, is it discusses the story of Quill’s capture by the Ravagers, and Peter and Yondu finding common ground, and how Quill became a member of the crew.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008)

After the events of Annihilation: Conquest, Peter Quill decides it would be a good idea to form a group of warriors to combat threats around the galaxy, instead of trying to stomp out evil once it’s already causing galactic troubles. For this team he recruits a lot of the people you would recognize from the Guardian of the Galaxy movie including Gamora, Drax, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot. That isn’t all though as the roster is actually quite large! If you want to get a good understanding of the basis for James Gunn’s film then you need to read this series.
