It’s Not Strange That It’s Benedict Cumberbatch Birthday

On today in 1976 Benedict Cumberbatch was born in Hammersmith London to two actor parents. Thanks to his upper-middle class family he attended boarding school and specialized as an arts scholar debuting in Shakespearean plays as early as 12. It was clear to everyone who saw him at that time that he was incredibly skilled. Cumberbatch continued to study drama at the Victoria University of Manchester and obtained a Master of Arts in classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

He has awards for his acting including a two BAFTA TV awards, a Primetime Emmy award, Two Academy awards, four Golden Globes, and a Laurence Olivier Award.

While his acting in stage and screen is now well known, he didn’t gain worldwide recognition until he portrayed Sherlock Holmes in 2010.

Since then, he has had a lot of success and has stared in many franchises and fandoms. This includes his inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Strange in 2016. He continues this role to this day and has stared in five movies within the franchise.

With that in mind, we thought now would be a good idea to talk about a couple of our favorite Doctor Strange comics. See what we suggest!

Strange Tales #110 (1963)
 
This multi-story book contains the first appearance of Doctor Strange and Wong within comic books. The story focuses on a man who seeks Doctor Strange to help him from a series of nightmares, caused by the man’s troubled past and Nightmare, Strange’s ancient enemy.
Doctor Strange The Oath #1 (2006)
 
This is actually a five issue limited series that deals with the costs that Doctor Strange will have to endure to attempt to save his friend Wong, the Hippocratic Oath, and the place magic has in medicine. It starts off with a very interesting opening though, as it begins with the realization that Doctor Strange has been shot, and then backtracks to how it happened.
The Death of Doctor Strange #1 (2021)
 
A limited series that kicked off other comics dealing with the effects, you can pick up a companion book of all the one-shots Here. With the death of Doctor Strange, the task of the Sorcerer Supreme fails, and the darkness the magic master held at bay is wreaking havoc on the Earth. Who killed Doctor Strange and can the heroes of the world keep these new magical incursions at bay until they can resolve this mystery.
