Born Gerard Arthur Way on April 9, 1977, Gerard is most commonly known for his work as an American singer/songwriter of the band My Chemical Romance.
Born and raised in Summit, New Jersey, Way began singing in the fourth grade in his musiscal production of Peter Pan. Prior to starting up his singing carreer, he thought he would have a career in the comic-book industry, attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City and graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
However, witnessing the effects of September 11, 2001 attacks on New York changed his life and he turned to music to deal with his emotionas in the wake of the tragedy. He even turned his emotions into the first My Chemical Romance song “Skylines and Turnstiles.”
Way began writing comic books when he was 16 years old, and created a series called “On Raven’s Wings,” which, although cancelled after issue #2, was published by Boneyard Press. He continued his work though and created a miniseries called The Umbrella Academy with Dark Horse Comics. The first collection of Umbrella Academy stories was called Apocalypse Suite and won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Limited Series.
In the world of comic books he has created a lot of successful works, and even his character Peni Parker, who he co-created, was used in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The Umbrella Academy #1 (2007) The series that you probably now know thank’s to it’s Netflix series was first and foremost a comic book written by the singer Gerard Way. This comic book represents the first story, written in 2007. The story tells of the children raised within The Umbrella Academy estranged and only reunited in adulthood due to the death of their mentor and father figure as they are thrust into a world ending threat. |

The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys #1 (2013) In a unique decision, Gerard Way chooses to write this comic book series as a sequel to his band, My Chemical Romance’s album Danger Days. The album had the sub-title “The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” and focused on a group of vigilantes as they fought a megacorporation. The comic picks up years later, the Killjoys now dead, and leaves a mysterious girl to follow in the footsteps of the Killjoys. |

Doom Patrol #1 (2016) Gerard Way takes over the helm of this series at DC Comics, in it’s 6th Volume. The series is a mature story within the Young Animal imprint. The new series uses new characters alongside some pretty popular former members of the patrol. |
