Brianna Hildebrand, the actress now best known for playing Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the Deadpool films, was born today on August 14, 1996, in College Station, Texas. Hildebrand loved all things in entertainment so much that at 17, she dropped out of high School and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
It wasn’t too long until her goal though, as a year later she landed her first major role in the web series Annie Undocumented in 2014. Since then she has starred in Prism, First Girl I loved, and then was cast in 2016 as Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the first Deadpool film. Since that role she continued to appear in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as many other works, including one of our favorite series Lucifer as the daughter of the devil.
While in the comics, her powers were telepathic and precognitive abilities, Deadpool and Fox wanted to tweak her abilities to work better with Deadpool’s story and film. So, in exchange for the rights of Ego the Living Planet to Disney, Marvel allowed Fox to tweak Negasonic to actually better fit her name.
As a way to show our love for Hildebrand’s performance as Negasonic, we wanted to share some of our favorite comics about the character!
New X-Men #115 (2001) In her first appearance and representation within the world of the comics Negasonic Teenage Warhead, was quite the different mutant. She was a precognizant goth with the ability to foresee her own death. The character was short-lived in its original iteration dying almost immediately upon the attack of genocia at the hands of Cassandra Nova, which is very fitting considering she is the recent villain in the new Deadpool movie. In fact, she died in Emma Frost’s hands which goes a long way to explaining her significance and why she made her first return. |
Astonishing X-Men #12 (2005) When the guilt of Emma Frost and the death of the mutants at Genosha gets to be too strong, Cassandra Nova is able to affect the mind of Emma, forcing her to create psychic representations of her guilt, including Negasonic Teenage Warhead, as new members of the Hellfire Club. Can the X-Men help her through and save the day? This is the first return of the character since her death in the original short appearance. |
X-Force #22 (2009) It’s been some time since the death of 16 million mutants on the island of Genosha. Selene Gallio arrives on the island to revive and absorb the souls of those who were lost there. Having been one such mutant, and one of the few to retain her powers, Negasonic Teenage Warhead not only revived but is able to stave off the control that Selene has on her soul. Unfortunately though the souls of the island are still sacrificed and Selene achieved godhood. While it’s believed that Negasonic survived this incident when she appears later in the comics, by willing herself alive after the defeat of Selene, it’s actually a direct result of the success of the character performed from Hildebrand. |
