Happy Birthday To Fantastic Four’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach!

Ebon Moss-Bachrach was born on March 19, 1977 in New York City, New York. Both of his parents ran a music school in Springfield, Massachusetts where Ebon spent the majority of his youth. while he always had a passion for literature, the theatre, and movies, he spent most of his high school years enamored with music. In fact, he planned to be an American History and Music Studies major in college, but during his first year he took an acting class and decided to pursue the theater.

He worked as an apprentice at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and then returned to New York City to study the Meisner technique of acting at the William Esper Studio.

While he started acting in television and TV Movies in 1999 starting with Murder in a Small Town, he continued in small roles until in 2014 he landed what many consider his breakout role in the HBO series Girls. Before that show’s inclusion he had a role to play in the Netflix/MCU series The Punisher, but is more likely known to most people for his role in the hit FX series The Bear.

All that being said, Ebon has been tapped to take on the role of The Thing/Ben Grimm in the third iteration of the Fantastic Four in the MCU’s first foray into the Marvel’s first family’s film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

With all of that in mind, and with Ebon not going anywhere, we thought it would be fun to talk about the character’s he’s played (or will play in) in movies that are based off of Comic Book series!

American Splendor: Our Movie Year (2004)
So this one is kinda a cheat, specifically to force the format of three comic book franchises, but I stand by it. Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays the MTV Director who works “with” Harvey, and as such I thought the best way to celebrate his role, if albeit small, in the film was to showcase the Comic inspired by the fact that the comic was made into a movie. Is that too meta? I think American Splendor’s film was meta.
The Punisher #4 (1987)
This is the comic book that first introduces David Lieberman, A.K.A. Microchip A.K.A. Micro. The reason we suggest this, on top of Punisher being an amazing comic book, is that Ebon Moss-Bachrach took on the role of David Lieberman and his title of Micro during the first season of The Punisher, the Netflix/Marvel series starring Jon Bernthal as the titular role.
Fantastic Four # 1 (1961)
With the celebration of Ebon Moss-Bachrach playing Ben Grimm, we wanted to showcase the first time The Thing was in the comics, and it’s in the first Fantastic Four comic book. In the book Mole Man and his monsters attack atomic plants and the Fantastic Four have to save the day. Is this the premise from the new film. I highly doubt it, but this book will give you the worlds first introduction to the pile of rocks with a heart of gold, and a chip on his shoulder.
