Happy B‏irthday To Buffy’s Xander – A.K.A. Nicholas Brendon

Nicholas Brendon was born on April 12, 1971 in Los Angeles, California. He was born shortly after his identical twin brother Kelly Donovan. So happy birthday to him as well!

Brendon was born with a stutter which prevented him from making meaningful relationships with people. However in his 20s he gave up his dream of baseball, and turned to acting as a way to work on his stuttering. When he was in his early 20, shortly after joining acting, he quit as a result of the “politics” of Hollywood.

He was out of money, out of opportunities, when a recent firing made him give acting another try, and he landed the role of Xander on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

After his success with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he partnered with the Stuttering Foundation of America in 2001 which made him an honorary chairperson for its National Stuttering Awareness Week.

While a lot has happened that puts Whedon in a bad light, and even Brendon’s own troubles with the law, the series, and characters have created a deep bond with an entire generation. With that in mind, and with the fact that the series continued on in Comic Book forms, we wanted to share some of the best storylines that features Xander.

Tales of the Vampires, Part Three (2004)
One of the stories within this anthology of stories is Antique, which focuses on a short story about Xander leaving to Africa to morn the death of Anya. While there he finds himself once again the thrall of Dracula. Eventually, Buffy finds him, and Dracula and Xander find a way to emotionally part ways.
Wolves at the Gate, Part One (2008)
After a new series of combats places the new Slayers against a foe that can transmogrify to another form at will, the group is left wondering what they are really up against. However, while Buffy and the gang are confused, Xander knows what kind of powers these are, and he rushes off to receive counsel from Dracula himself!
The Watcher (2013)
After the recent events and the severance of magic in the Buffyverse, Xander’s new life begins to fall apart when Dawn starts to fade from existance. Without magic, the magical form of the key starts to be removed from the world. As he is desperate to save her, he begins to straddle the lines of what is wrong and right.
