Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of January 5, 2024

The Bricklayer – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming

When journalists end up dead and the government gets framed, the CIA has to turn to a retired agent, played by Aaron Eckhart to track down their recent fallen operative before they go the international conspiracy does to much damage.

I am glad to see Eckhart get work again. He is really good at acting, but for some reason took a long break. While this is a well treaded trope, it’ll be fun to see him run through it, and if you are a fan of action, this is a plus.

He Went That Way – Releasing in Theaters and a week later on Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 27%

When Jim, played by Zachary Quinto, decides to pick up a hitchhiker, played by Jacob Elordi, he gets more then he bargained for. What for Jim was simply a transport of a TV darling chimpanzee across a barren stretch of road, becomes something much more treacherous.

Focused around the real story and events of a 19-year-old serial killer, this film really showcases an interesting take, because I’ve always believed the only thing wierder then a hitchhiker, are the people that decide to pick them up.

The Painter – Releasing in Theaters and a week later on Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

An ex-CIA agent, played by Charlie Weber, is trying to move on with his life, working as a painter and trying to be normal. Howeverm when the world he was in comes crawling back, it puts a target on his back. Does he still have what it takes to survive?

While this might seem similar to Bricklayer, the main difference in this film, is like despiration. While Bricklayer is about weeding out a conspiracy, this is a solid action peice where he is struggling to survive. That’s a different, and fun difference to help you determine which to watch.

Weak Layers – Releasing in Limited Theaters

Though living the dream of a ski-bum, Cleo, played by Katie Burrell, is a bartender who has a dream of being a filmmaker. Ten years later though, and she has nothing to show for it. When despiration sits in, after being kicked out of her place for a large party, Cleo turns to a 72-hour Ski Film contest to finally make her dreams come true.

Come on it’s winter, I’m glad we are getting back ski and snowboard films like we had in the 80s and 90s! This is interesting enough to pull my attention, and hopefully yours as well.

Why Men Are Clueless – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

After being a letdown for over three years. A regular guy has to finally figure out how to understand women, or he will lose his girlfriend for good.

This is definitely a small limited film that has a lot of the same “men are dumb” humor of the 90s. That being said, I’m willing to give it a chance, and if you are looking for a comedy film this week, this might be it.
