After Harvard taught Erwin, played by Rudy Pankow, fails at his first professional acting gig, it kicks off an overreaction that leads to him trying to flee the state. However, when he breaks down in Texas, he finds himself in the company of a couple of people, played by Carrie-Anne Moss and Thomas Haden Church, and at their mercy to leave the state. However, the trouble they get in might be worse than his acting breakdown.

A mixture of comedy and drama, this movie takes the concept that desperation makes interesting bedfellows to the next level. If you are looking for something that stands out this week, this might be the film for you.

American Dreamer – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Phil Loder, played by Peter Dinklage, is an underpaid professor who wants to own a house, but can’t catch a break. However, when he gets the opportunity to purchase a house for pennies from Astrid Finnelli, played by Sherley MacLaine, he learns that there are more strings attached then he figured when he made the deal.

Based on a true story from Chicago Public Radio’s The American Life, this is a sad testament to the dream of home ownership being out of reach for even successful person including a college professor who is knowledgeable in economics. That being said, Dinklage’s acting is always impressive, so definitely worth it.

Cabrini – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 94%

When Francesca Cabrini, played by Cristiana Dell’Anna, came to New York City in 1889, she found the place to be filled with disease, crime, and urchins. What she does next is a mission to build an empire of hope starting first with the city’s mayor and housing and healthcare for the vulnerable.

It’s amazing to think that even that far into the past, the need and desire to fight for equality for the poor was being fought for, and we still have to edge out resources bit by bit today when it was even so apparent back then.

Imaginary – Releasing in Theaters

When a little girls Imaginary Friend begins to have effect upon the real world it begins to take a dark turn. Now the girl’s Stepmother Jessica, played by DeWanda Wise, has to delve deeper into where this friend and stuffed animal it’s based on comes from. When Jessica finds out that the imaginary friend was originally hers, and it’s mad that she abandoned them, it unnerves her to her core.

If you are a fan of horror, and Blumhouse films, then this film will be a good fit for you. It feels like a dark Drop Dead Fred, and Blumhouse has done a great job taking those older concepts and tropes and turning them into successful films.

Kung Fu Panda 4 – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Kung Fu Panda is back once again. This time he is being asked to take a higher role and begin the progress of becoming a Leader. However, before he can complete his journey, a new evil arises that can master the styles of all of Po’s prior enemies. They’ve made four of these films now. That’s crazy. If you have children who loved the first film, they might be too old to enjoy them by this point, but if that is not the case, then you likely will be forced to see this film.
