Day of Reckoning – Releasing in Limited Theaters

Lawman John Dorsey, played by Zach Roerig, is about to lose his wife, job, and world when he is forced to team up with a U.S. Marshall, played by Billy Zane, while holding an outlaw, played by Cara Hade Myers, hostage. When the plan gets messed up, the outlaw and Dorsey are forced to work together before a more dangerous gang of outlaws seeks their revenge.
Looking for a western, they are few and far between. This action and drama bring back those simpler and brutal times. Also, I like seeing Billy Zane get some more screen time.
Death Of A Unicorn – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 64%
On their way to a weekend retreat with his boss, played by Richard E. Grant, a father, played by Paul Rudd, and daughter, played by Jenna Ortega, hit and kill a child unicorn. They take the beast with them, and while their boss wants to exploit it, they might not have a chance due to the Unicorn’s mother coming to destroy the group.
This dark comedy mixes the realm of horror with off the wall ridiculous. Jenny Ortega is partnered with Paul Rudd for extra comedy effect. Also, who doesn’t love the over the top Richard E. Grant! I know the reviews aren’t great, but I love the zany nature of the film.
The Friend – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%
When Iris, played by Naomi Watts, discovers that her mentor, played by Bill Murray, has passed away, she also is bequeathed a 150 lb Great Dane named Apollo. The new pairing of the two throws her life in New York into chaos. As she deals with these problems she also is reminded of her mentor’s choices in life and death. As she deals with the grief of her friend’s death, she also finds herself bonding with the dog, and coming to terms with the world as she lives in it.
More drama than anything you are seeing this week, the film is heavy handed and well written and acted by all involved. If you want a solid look at death and forgiveness, then this is a great film to help you through that journey.
The Penguin Lessons – Releasing in Limited Theaters

Tom, played by Steve Coogan, thinks leaving his life in England and heading to Argentina for a teaching job would be easy, but finds himself in a torn nation with students who don’t want to learn. When he saves a penguin though, it turns his world upside down and changes everything.
This story is based on a true story, and is set in 1976. If you are looking for a drama period piece, then this is definitely interesting. Coogan plays more straight face, but its not without it’s charm and slight humor.
A Working Man – Releasing in Theaters

Levon Cade, played by Jason Statham, tried to leave his history of violence behind, and take up an everyman’s life. However, when violence finds him, he has to return to that world and gets caught back into a criminal conspiracy that will prevent him from being able to return to the world he just built.
I mean, if you don’t love a Jason Statham “everyday man secretly is bad ass, and takes people out” film, then do you even like action films. Two people get type cast in these types of films, Statham and Liam Neeson, and frankly both make action films definitely worth watching, even if they are formulaic.
