Movies For The Week Of July 7, 2023

Amanda – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

When an affluent woman, played by Benedetta Porcaroli, realizes that she fails to succeed in romantic endeavors, she thinks it’s due to not having any friend. So she strives to reconnect with an old childhood friend and trick them into thinking they were still friends.

This looks like a playful but interesting look into the world of disconnection and friendships. This is the debut of writer-director Carolina Cavalli, so I’m interested to see how this goes.

Insidious: The Red Door – Releasing in Theaters

Return to the world of Insidious with the latest film, The Red Door. The Lambert family wants to put their demons to rest as now college-aged Dalton, played by Ty Simpkins, and have to face the horrors behind the red door.

How did Patrick Wilson become the most prolific party in the industry of horror. This and the Conjuring franchise. However, it’s a “final” chapter, so we will see if that’s true. Lets be honest though, we’ll still watch this one.

Joy Ride – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

When Audrey, played by Ashley Park, sees a business trip go sideways, she brings her friends, played by Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, Sabrina Wu, on a trip that will bond them as a result of friendship, debauchery, and chaos.

A fun film designed to match that type of energy of prior films like Road Trip. If you are looking for a bonding film, like Hangover.

The Lesson – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

J.M. Sinclair, played by Richard E. Grant, is looking for tutor for his son, played by Stephen McMillan, and finds what seems like a perfect hire in the form of Liam, played by Daryl McCormack, a young writer, who sees Sinclair as an idol being a renowned author. However, as Liam gets drawn into Sinclairs family secrets, it puts his interests against Sinclair’s interests.

This film looks like a dark tale, a master and protégé noir thriller which pits the two interests against each other. If you like thrillers, then this film is more interesting.

Sound of Freedom – Releasing in Theaters

When federal agent Tim Ballard, played by Jim Caviezel, learns that a child he recently rescued from child traffickers had a sibling still within the network. Forced to quit his job to be able to track down the network in Colombia, he embarks on a dangerous journey to rescue her.

I was a huge fan of Caviezel and fell in love with him from the show Person of Interest. There are some similarities between the characters in this film and the show. However, the topic of the film is very heavy so keep that in mind before purchasing your ticket.
