Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of July 28, 2023

The Beasts – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

In the Spanish Countryside a couple expatriated from France, played by Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs, had been operating an organic farm. When their interactions with the locals comes off as patronizing, the village views it as privilege and tensions form between the groups.

This is a foreign film, but if you are looking for a good drama and suspensful film, then this one will be worth watching for sure.

Haunted Mansion – Releasing in Theaters

When a woman and son inherit a house, they enlist a crew of spiritual experts to get rid of the ghosts that reside there.

Hopefully better then the prior version of this film, the movie leans once again on some amazing talent, but also seems to be following a lot closer to the ride with some of it’s story beats. We are definitely interested!

The Mistress – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When a new couple, played by Chasten Harmon and John Magaro, move into their dream home, it is made worse by ghostly disturbances from a lovelorn woman who lived there a century before. However, as the ghostly actions occur, it begins to make the wife think her husband is hiding his own dark past.

This reminds me a lot of the film What Lies Beneath, however, with the length of time between the death at the property, it’s impossible to have the same twist. So I am interested to see how this one goes.

Sympathy for the Devil – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When a person, played by Joel Kinnaman, is forced by gunpoint to drive a mysterious passenger, played by Nicholas Cage, his night takes a high-stakes turn. Forced to play his passenger’s game, the driver begins to realize that there may be more to this ride.

I love Kinnaman, and Cage seems to play an unhinged kidnapper with strange undertones. This is where Cage shines. I am actually pretty excited about this one.

Talk To Me – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 97%

A group of friends get together at a party and play a game of chicken with an embalmed and marked hand. The challenge is how long you hold this spirit possessed hand. When one person, Mia, holds the hand for too long, it invites the supernatural into our world and the children become the target of their wrath.

If you like thriller horror films, then this looks like a really solid entry into this venue, akin to Black Phone and Smile. I really like these newer entries into the horror field and can’t wait to see it!
