Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of August 2, 2024

The Duel – Releasing in Limited Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When Colin, played by Dylan Sprouse, finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend, the two agree to a duel. However the real test will be if the two actually go through with it.

It’s an interesting take on the subject and reminds me of Hamilton the Musicals rendition on the topic. It’ll be interesting seeing it in a modern setting.

Cuckoo – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 81%

When Gretchen, played by Hunter Schafer, leaves her life in American to be with her father in the German Alps with his family, her redisense at the idea is met by a real world secret and shocking history she couldn’t imagine.

Part horror, part thriller, if you are looking for something to peek your interest this week, it’s not a bad idea for this one.

Detained – Releasing in Limited Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

Rebecca, played by Abbie Cornish, is accused of a hit and run, but she only just woke at the police station. As she follows the threads of what happened, she discovers dark secrets and hidden sinister plots.

Part Hangover part Hostel this film hopes to keep you on the edge of your seat, but only time will tell if they can succeed.

Harold and the Purple Crayon – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Harold, played by Zachary Levi, can make anything with his purple crayon, but his journey gets really weird when he draws his way to the real world. Now Harold will share his imagination with others and unfortunately someone who puts his and the real world in harms way.

This honestly feels a lot like Shazam in its energy, duel evil and good uses of the crayon, and Levi’s energy. However it is based after a beloved children’s book and a lot of people are excited to see it come to life.

Kneecap – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 97%

A school teacher and two low-lives find themselves as the figureheads for a musical revolution of native Irish language and hip hop which spurns a movement to save the Gaelic tongue while the police and politicians try to silence them.

Sex, drugs and hip-hop become odd bedfellows with a movement for the defense of native cultures that some view as antithetical but works so well in this biopic.
