SDCC 2019 – Do Some Charitable Good At The Con

At the convention this year, a lot of people are partnering with charities to create some real strong ways for people to give back.

Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive

Our favorite, which we do every year, is the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive. While the location is never exactly the same, from the Marriott Marquis, to the Omni Hotel, and more recently at the Grand Hyatt, this blood drive churns out a whopping amount of blood each year.

While there, you can choose to do a Platelet donation, which usually takes 45 minutes, a Double Red donation, which can average 30 minutes, or a regular blood draw, which is on average 25 minutes. The amount of help you wish to do with the drive is up to you.

Once your donation is over, take some treats, and juice, rest up a bit, and collect a unique blood drive t-shirt, which can only be acquired from donating blood.

501st Canned Food Drive

While the 501st’s more well known activity during the convention is their annual Droid Hunt, this year they are having a canned food drive, to collect food to donate to charity.

I know as a tourist to the area, it’s not likely that we have canned goods with us at con, or that we’d carry such heavy items in our bags, but if you are a local, or could pick up a couple cans at the market, then please help these Empire scum help out people in need.

Deadquarters Food Drive

While it’s always important to remember the reason to be charitable is to do a good deed, not the reward, AMC and the Deadquarters at the convention has teamed up to enter people who donate canned goods to a raffle.

If you win the raffle , you could get an autograph from a cast member of The Walking Dead!

So hopefully that helped you find a couple awesome ways to help your fellow man with this post!
