Stranger Things Ice Cream: Scoops Ahoy

As we speak I am starting season three of Stranger Things. Before I did, I knew I wanted to stop by the Stranger Things themed ice cream shop that took over a Baskin Robbins training facility and headquarters in Burbank, California. And did they ever! Not a single trace of Baskins Robbins anywhere! Even down to the napkin dispensers and the stickers marking the ice cream as kosher, everything is now Scoops Ahoy.

Now this is an especially weird thing for me, because my first job ever (besides cutting coupons for my parents and other household chores), was my high school job working at a Baskin Robbins. I remember learning the two very important scooping techniques, the “S” scoop and the “half circle”. So this was my “upside down” Stranger Things moment, walking into this other world ice cream shop.

So here is the inside scoop. Scoops Ahoy has the usual classic flavors, but there were four special Stranger Things themed specialty orders. The most popular being the U.S.S. Butterscotch Sundae which is also seen in the show. I, favoring the chocolate, selected the obvious Upside Down Sundae. Also available as Stranger Things specialty items were the Demogorgan Sundae and Elevenade Freeze.

The shop should be open until the 14th of July, so if you are a fan of Stranger Things or not, just go for the ice cream and bragging rights. Enjoyably for me, while I was there, I met and chatted with a lot of very fun fans welcoming and willing to chat about Stranger Things. A few people were even dressed up in Scoops Ahoy and other Stranger Things merch. If you don’t have your own, they were sold out at the time, but they are also selling exclusive Pop figures and other similarly themed Stranger Things stuff.

Stranger Things seems to have the marketing game down! Following our previous experiences the totally rebranded Santa Monica pier to Stranger Things (you can see our article HERE), plus their other collaborations with Burger King and their Upside Down Whopper, special edition Mongoose BMX bike, New Coke, the Upside Down experience at Wriggly Field, plus the various clothing from Nike, H&M, and Levi’s.

So what do you think about the latest season? Please no spoilers! Will you be going to this pop up or do you wish you could go? What specialty item will you be selecting? Who’s your favorite character? Let us know in the comments. Well, a rat just exploded on the show as I’m writing this article, so I better get back to binging. Until next time!
