Carnival Corporation has been focusing on food waste reduction, specifically with their “Less Left Over” program. The program has donated approximately 200 portions of prepared, unserved meals from Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras which was distributed to the Archdiocese of Puerto Plata so that they could distribute it to the area, specifically assisting families and the elderly.
The program now has reached 19 ports since launching in 2017. This program specifically helps address food insecurity in port communities where the company’s ships visit. Up to 2025, the program has provided more than 320,000 meal with plans to continue expanding into new markets.
Now the program is expanding to Carnival Cruise Line ships arriving at Amber Cove, Dominican Republic.
This builds on Carnival’s long-standing plans through Amber Cove, which opened in 2015. Amber Cove has welcomed approximately seven million visitors since then, which helped Puerto Plata become a leading Caribbean cruise destination and created opportunities for local tour operators, artisans, vendors, transportation providers, and small businesses!
