E-Outdoor, a company from Switzerland, has created the world’s first electric ski and have named it the E-Skimo. While the company does not produce the skis, just the technology that can be installed on Skis, they did get custom models crafted specifically to showcase during CES.
The electric ski has a treadmill that runs on the bottom of the ski and utilizes a battery and engine to pull the ski when it travels across flat or near flat terrain. This makes the ski great for cross-country skiing or for people with mobility issues.
When using the technology, the skis will be 80% faster when cross-country skiing and increase the vertical climb speed by four times, while also reducing muscle workout by 30%.
When you finish with your flat traversing, or up-hill movement, and want to ski back down the hill, you have to remove the E-Skimo technology, including the battery, engine, and treadmill. Then refill the transition hole, that the tread is controlled through, with a plug and then you can head downhill!
