DesignerCon 2020 Is Going Virtual!

As we’ve said before, DesignerCon has been around for 15 years, starting in 2005 by Ben Goretsky as a way for artists, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to meet one another, and directly connect with their audience. As the designer toy market has grown over the years, so has DesignerCon.

We’ve covered DesignerCon in the past, (see Here), and have done several interviews with some of our favorite talent at the convention, (see Cryomera Here, Kathie Olivas Here, and inga Lena Here).

With COVID-19, every convention seems to have shifted to an online format, with virtual vendors, virtual storefronts, and direct connections between artists and the viewers at home.

No lines, no crowds? What more do you need!

The convention runs from November 13th 2020 through November 15th, 2020.

They will be broadcasting the convention through Popshop Live, which while having been founded in 2016, received a influx of $3 million in a July 2020 funding period. The platform is an e-commerce webste, that appears to merge Etsy and Twitch into one platform. Allowing sellers to connect to their shoppers in a whole new way.

This new platform will allow the event to connect with the fans of the convention in an interesting and unique way, that properly places the vendors and artists in the forefront. Artists will have their own sessions, the ability to show off their items, field questions, and sell to the audience.

During this year’s DesignerCon, the expo is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future, holding a fan art show curated by Carmen Acosta. DKE Toys will also be showing off limited edition hand-made Back To The Future action figures created from over 30 artists!

They also plan to once more bring back Secret Walls, but clearly with a virtual flare.

More details will be announced closer to the convention. Find out more about what is happening at this event Here.

General Access to the event costs $10, and VIP tickets cost $65. While some people might not be happy paying for a virtual convention, since so many have offered them for free, the price for the general admission is quite low and reasonable for the event, and goes to help support this convention which is definitely suffering as a result of the pandemic.

VIP will net you access on Friday, while general access gets you access on Saturday. That’s not the only thing you get though, as you also get a special VIP gift box.
