Movies For The Week Of June 23, 2023

God is a Bullet – Releasing in Theaters

When Detective Bob Hightower, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, finds his ex-wife murdered and daughter kidnapped, he must take on a secret cult. With no idea of where to go, he turns to a prior escapee, played by Maika Monroe.

This movie is based on the novel by Boston Teran, and is a very dramatic and thriller film for the week. It also includes the amazing Jamie Foxx. If you want something a bit more serious this week, then this will be a good one for you.

Here. Is. Better. – Releasing in Theater and Streaming in a Week
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A documentary telling the story of four men and women who are veterans dealing with PTSD and their journey through new treatments for the condition.

If you know someone suffering with this trauma, or wish you had more knowledge to be more sensitive, then this documentary will help you get a better understanding.

Mad Heidi – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

Heidi, played by Alice Lucy, is a simple girl living in the Alps. However the world around her gets turned upside down when a dictator attempts to increase it’s reach. Now Heidi must go on an adventure to liberate her country!

Why can’t other countries like Switzerland get in on the dystopian future story? This action movie is so over the top that it’s exploitative nature makes it fun, while also playing with the fact that it’s based on a popular Swiss children’s book character.

Nimona – Releasing in Theater and Streaming in a Week
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A knight, played by Riz Ahmed, is framed for a crime, so he turns to a teen, that he had been trained to kill, named Nimona, played by Chloë Grace Moretz.

This animated film is very interesting sounding, and not specifically designed for children. If you don’t normally go out for these types of films, then you can at least enjoy this for free on Netflix a week later.

No Hard Feelings – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Maddie, played by Jennifer Lawrence, gets an interesting summer job. She is hired by a weathy family to flirt with and corrupt the family’s 19 year old son before he heads off to college. However, the teen is not very interested in a wild time.

This is a really funny insane themed movie that feels like a ridiculous journey and coming of age film that knows it’s playing with outdated themes and times. Because it knows what it is, so it is able to poke fun at itself.
