Nerd Out: August 2021

Masks are going off and then going back on, but events are still available as more and more people get vaccinated. So we are here with the nerd events that are returning to cater to the culture that is vaccinated. To help you find some fun and safe events, we continue our monthly endeavor to bring you some of the choice events for the Los Angeles area!

Before we go into the details of the events, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on ”If You Should Go Out” Here. In keeping with our promise within that article though, each event we are talking about will have an Is It Safe section discussing steps taken by the organization to keep the attendees safe. Please consider that though before making your ticket purchases.

Some of the cool things going on this month are:

  • Torched: Pop Up Dining Experience
  • Elsewhere at the Madcap Motel

The people behind the Gastro Garage have set up a temporary pop-up above Hollywood at the rooftop location of the W Hollywood Hotel and extended the event through August. Meals are prepared on-site, live, before you with a blowtorch. Each mean comes with 8 courses, and if purchase your tickets through Fever it includes a free cocktail. The event runs only after 7:00 p.m., because of course, you want the night sky to showcase the beautiful flames.

The staff wears masks, and all attendees are wearing masks to enter the establishment, but clearly, they must take them off to eat. However, the event is taking place on the roof of the W Hollywood Hotel and is open air. This makes the event much safer than indoor dining.

Lost Spirtis Distillery – Las Vegas Located at Area 15 in Las Vegas starting August 15, 2021.

I know this list is primarily for Los Angeles events, but we loved the Los Angeles location of this distillery, and while it still remains closed due to Covid-19 concerns, the Las Vegas location is opening this month to guests. Las Vegas is a pretty common weekend trip for people in Los Angeles, so it’s not uncommon for people to visit. It’s located at the Area 15 artist co-op lot and features large amounts of free parking.

While you are there, maybe also check out Omega Mart, and the other experiences at Area 15!

Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball In Los Angeles on August 20, 2021 and August 21, 2021.

Based on the David Bowie and Henson film Labyrinth, this masquerade ball focuses on the moment where Sarah is trapped in the fantasy ball after having eaten the tainted fruit. There are cash bars, vendors, and delicious food options. If you like spectacles, then the main stage has tons of performances, and dancing is a plenty with like-minded costumed fans of the world of fantasy.

This event is in a public space and usually is pretty packed. To put people at ease, the event is requiring masks, vaccinations, and is reducing their capacity. Vaccinations are not just required for all attendees, but vendors, performers, and staff as well. If you are anxious you can always step into the outside spaces to catch a breath, cool down, and feel even more uncrowded.

Tickets start at $65 each, with many options for upgrades including pre-show access, tea room access, and VIP access. Purchase your tickets Here! The event requires a mask and costume, so check out our article Here.
