Rochelle Stops By Underwood Family Farms For Their Fall Harvest Festival

One of our favorite places to go each fall is Underwood Family Farms’ largest event of the year, the annual Fall Harvest Festival in Moorpark, CA. It is now back for its 25th year!

Although the pandemic forced them to scale back the event back in 2020, we’ve seen the festival steadily grow back to its former glory year after year. After all, there is ample space to spread out across their 50 acres of land.

When I think of Fall Harvest Festivals I think of all the wonderful things Underwood has to offer. From getting lost in corn mazes and picking from a wide variety of pumpkins to riding the bee train and petting the animals, there is so much for everyone to enjoy! Tractor-drawn wagon rides not only take you to the corn maze, but they take you to their huge farm where you can harvest your own sunflowers, peppers, squash, whatever is in bounty. Get your face painted or paint your own pumpkin or scarecrow. Go to an animal show to see some of the farm’s favorite (and not so favorite) animals. Attend the pig race and “soo-wee!” Root for your pig to win, and even have a chance to go home with a pig nose! Dance with the live band and eat the deliciously world famous fish tacos from Spencer Makenzie’s, among other food options like burgers, chicken strips, corn on the cob, and loaded baked potatoes to more sweet options like smoothies, shaved ice, kettle corn, donuts, and pumpkin pie. And one cannot forget the hand-dipped cones from Mister Softee! Take countless photos at the pumpkin house, with Jack o lantern displays, on the hay pyramids, with hay spiders, and with the giant tractor on display. Feed the ducklings or simply pet a goat who wants to eat everything in your bag! Play games like ring toss, corn or tomato launch. Ride a horse-drawn carriage or your own tricycles, or opt for the good old-fashioned playground rides like multiple slides, swings, and climbing on the wooden train and buses. They even have a bounce house this year, near the singing chickens. Visit the country store for all your festive fall needs, and be sure to pick up a pumpkin from the patch or the store on your way out! It is such an enjoyable and action-packed day at the farm!

The event this year seemed fully staffed to handle the large weekend crowds. Also ample were the number of portable potties and hand washing stations which this pregnant mama appreciates. There are pull wagons and wheelbarrows available to use, but feel free to bring your own wagons and strollers as well. While a lot ia included in the price of admission, there are additional tickets required for the following:

  • Gem/Fossil Mining
  • Electric Train
  • John Deere, Bee, Cow & Grain Trains
  • Horse-drawn Wagon Rides (weekends-only)
  • Animal Petting & Duck Feeding Areas
  • Bean & Corn Boxes
  • Games & Crafts
  • Face Painting
  • Tickets are roughly $1/ticket or you can get a discount when you buy in bulk.

Weekday admission is discounted ($14) because they don’t include bands, demonstrations, and entertainment, and you MUST buy them at the gate. Weekend admission can only be purchased in advance on-line.

Another perk of going on a weekend is that each weekend of the month includes a different family-friendly theme, so you can return multiple weekends to check out their new offerings.

This past weekend October 1st and 2nd was Public Safety Weekend, so officers, ENTs, firemen, K-9 units and more were onsite. We thanked them for their service while they showed us what they had to offer like their drones, vehicles, equipment, and information about their unit. We even witnessed a rescue helicopter circling above and landing on-site!

Here’s the themes they have planned:

  • October 8th and 9th is Farm Country Weekend
  • October 15th and 16th is Antique Tractor Weekend
  • October 22nd and 23rd is Wild West Weekend
  • October 29th and 30th is All About Pumpkins Weekend
  • Come visit the farm now through October 31st! 9am-6pm. Tickets are $14 weekdays, and start at $22 (presale) for weekends. Children 2 and under and parking are free. $2 discount for seniors, military, veterans, and first responders with valid I.D.
