Carnival is the world’s largest cruise company, and with that responsibility comes an interest to set an example in the world. With that in mind, the company is reinforces their goal to reduce Greenhouse Gasses (GHG) by a 25% reduction with a target of 2029, just a tiny bit down the road, raising their previous goal by five percentage points and accelerating timeline by one year!
They have made this decision after they already met their prior goal for 2030 goal five years early in 2025, successfully cutting GHG emissions intensity by 20%. That’s why they decided to try to increase the target by 5 more percent, and then even choose to reduce the target year, after their recent success. Their future plans include operational improvements, energy efficiency investments, and low-GHG power generation.
The way they have achieved their success is due to fuel-efficiency, and as a result of reducing fuel use has potentially saved the company roughly $650 million in 2026 alone versus the prior 2019 levels. Since 2008, the company has reduced its GHG emissions intensity by 44%.
