The Grimms Town Terror Tales: Rise Of The Candy Creeper – Comic Book Spotlight

We got the chance to check out another Storm Kids comics, and we wanted to take a second to review it so we could see if it was something our younger readers might be interested in checking out.

This production from Storm King is over 130 pages, told over 5 chapters, and is a great entry point for the series, following Hansel and Gretel Grimm as they live in Grimms Town, a place named after the twins ancestors.

While the siblings start off like any normal siblings, bickering and picking at each other’s insecurities, it’s soon shown that their love for one another does run deeper than their petty squabbles. Their bickering is put on hold when their parents disappear, and they discover a dark secret of monsters all over their town. Now with their parents nowhere to be seen, and the knowledge of monsters putting everyone at risk, the two must rise up to become the Grimm Twin Defenders.

Not to spoil the story, but the first real enemy they face as they learn how to combat this new foe is the Candy Creeper. Do they have what it takes, or will they just become one of a string of recent children disappearances?

The funny thing is early in the first chapter they make a Honeymooner’s reference that made me, as an adult chuckle. That does raise the question of, who is that for. To be honest they even call back to the joke down the line.

It’s not a cutesy tale like Stanley’s Ghost and is better suited for the pre-teen group. The tale takes a couple of dark turns but not too dark as to push away children. The ongoing tragedy of their missing parents might be a bit much though for some children.

If you are looking for a cool comic for your kids, which is a mix of the Grimm series and Goosebumps, then you should pick up this comic book Here for them!
