Gun Honey #1 – Comic Book Spotlight

We really love comic books here at NNS, and when we saw the beauty of these comic books, and the art style, we jumped at the chance to talk about it for the site. If you like crime novels and crime graphic novels, then this series will be right up your alley.

The print is from Hard Case Crime, Titan Comics line-up of more serious crime-based stories, that feel more like the suspense novellas of yesteryears. So let’s jump into the first issue of this series!

Basic Synopsis

Have you seen the first Godfather? There is a scene in which Michael Corleone has to have a meeting with a crime boss to make peace. He is checked for weapons before, but mid-way through the meeting, he goes to the bathroom and finds a gun that was hidden there for him earlier in the day. When I read the first issue of the comic, that scene flashed in my mind, as our first experience with Gun Honey is specifically that!

Joanna, the Gun Honey, gets invited to a rich person’s yacht due to how attractive she is, and then slips off to the bathroom. She dismantles parts of her bathing suit, and turns it into a small makeshift gun, and hides it. Shortly after a man interrupts her claiming sickness, and a few minutes later the hit is on.

We are then introduced to government agents that want to give her the chance to join them, and put her skills to use to make the world a better place. Joanna doesn’t have time for this though, she has a job to do, sneak a gun into a locked-down compound, but it doesn’t go the way Joanna expected.

My Take

This movie feels very Femme Fatalle. Joanna uses her body and the way people view women as weak, or non-threatening to her advantage. The first issue even gives a lot of background into how Joanna became the woman she is to this day.

It’s engaging and interesting. It’s definitely a strong enough premise to warrant further reading.

I want to point out one major issue though, this comic, due to its story, does show a bit of nudity in the series. Keep that in mind before you start reading. Maybe not at work, or in public, but it’s pretty soft so far, but we will have to see how far it goes later.

If you want to see how Joanna gets out of trouble, we’ll have to wait until the next comic. You can pick up the issue Here!
