We Visited Fearplex: Lights Out For 2025

We headed out to Pomona California, the home of the Los Angeles County fairgrounds. During October, the fairgrounds actually host two events. The first of which is Oktoberfest. The second of which is Fearplex: Lights Out.

The Fearplex: Lights Out experience is a five-maze event with a couple extra bonuses sprinkled on top.

The five mazes include

  • Shadow Circus – A clown seemed maze located in the northern Hall.
  • Contagion – A zombie themed maze located in the Northern Hall.
  • Underworld – A vampire and werewolf themed maze located in the Southern Hall.
  • Whitechapel – A Jack the Ripper themed maze located in the Southern Hall.
  • Institute of Fear – An interesting take on Haunted House/Mazes in that it breaks down the experience into multiple sections, each of which dedicated to a different traditional fear like that of the dentist, needles, spiders and dolls.
  • Also, located in the Northern Hall is the Museum of Monsters creating great photo ops for people in attendance with dozens of monsters from iconic films throughout the years.

There is even Zombieball, a game using gel balls where you fire upon standees, animatronics, and apparently at sometimes moving scare actors. However, when we participated, there was no actors inside the alley to be fired at.

Next to the three mazes in the Southern Hall, there are several vendors showcasing horror themed items, shirts, and merch to help get you in the spooky mood.

The main courtyard between the two halls however, was filled with inflatables, dioramas and even a DJ playing music to get everyone in the mood for the event.

They even had cocktails, specialty drinks, as well as a vendor selling unique food dishes. We picked up the chicken and fries, as well as the carne asada fries while we were there.

For those that are still thinking about the fact that the space hosts Oktoberfest, you can purchase a dual ticket to both events called “Booze and Brews.”

The mazes of this event primarily focus on using animatronics, and standees, but do still pepper in scare actors. As a result, it is not the most terrifying of experiences, which makes this a great entry-level scare activation experience for beginners, and those that scare easily. Add to the fact that it has an affordable price tag and ease of access for anyone around Pomona, and this is definitely a hit.
