When a CIA cryptographer, played by Rami Malek, loses his wife to a terrorist action, he tries to go from analyst to agent to get revenge, when the agency wont let him, he blackmails them into putting him into the action.

A tale about loss, and how we can lose ourselves in revenge and wade into a world of grey actions for lost love and sorrow.

Drop – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 87%

When Violet, played by Meghann Fahy, went on a date with Henry, played by Brandon Sklenar, she thought it was a much needed change in her life. However, when she gets phone drops with pictures and notifications that kidnappers have taken her babysitting sister and child hostage, she is pushed to her limits. Now she has to choose between killing her date, or losing her loved ones.

This is a dark concept of a film. The trolley problem placed directly into the hands of our main characters. It’s a different thing to take a life, besides letting a life be taken. There is something dark and evil about making it a mother who is just, after a long time, finally getting into the dating scene.

Sacramento – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 95%

When Rickey, played by Michael Angarano, loses his father, he turns to his friend Glenn, played by Michael Cera, to take him on a road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento. While he isn’t interested at first, his wife, played by Kristen Stewart, convinces him that it’s a good way for the two to reconnect.

A story about uncertain futures, past mistakes, and confronting anxiety. There probably isn’t a better film out there for the generation currently stumbling into adulthood in a world of chaos that we live in.

Warfare – Releasing in Theaters

See the lives of an embedded platoon of Navy Seals, including Ray, played by D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, as they move through enemy territory during the Iraq war.

This film is written and directed by Ray Mendoza, with the help of Alex Garland. While I don’t think this film is one for one history, it’s based off the memory of the people who lived through this war.

Zero – Releasing in Limited Theaters and Streaming

Two American men, played by Hus Miller and Cam McHarg, wake up in Senegal with bombs attached to them. Now they must follow the orders of their captor or risk losing their lives, however what they learn along the way will change their lives.

A thriller with a deeper meaning, and an interesting concept. I am more interested in this film due to its choices, and frankly if you are looking for a stand out movie in this genre, this is worth checking out.
