Legendary Comics Brings Tragic – A Queer Retelling Of Hamlet

Shakespeare is an interesting historical figure. His works, while some claim are not his own, cover a variety of subjects. From Historical works to flights of fancy and mysticism. One of my favorites from his collection is the tale of Hamlet. The angst of a duty placed upon you by your lineage, and the questioning nature of youth is so perfectly discussed and dealt with in this macabre tale.

For those not in the know of the Bard’s work, Hamlet traditionally is the tale of a prince, whose uncle marries his mother, after the recent death of his father. He thinks things are amiss at this quick marriage, and his suspicions are confirmed when the ghost of his father appears to him and tells him that his Uncle killed him. As he grapples with the quest to avenge his father, his Uncle plots to remove him from the narrative all cumulating into a tragic and brutal night of death where none are spared.

Now writer Dana Mele is taking that story about angst and coming into your own, and being true to yourself, and connecting it to a queer story with her retelling titled Tragic from Legendary Comics.

In the story, Harper Hayes is 17-year-old and dealing with the death of her father. With her ex Talia and best friend Holden, Harper seeks to find his killer. When her investigation leads her to believe her uncle, who is sleeping with Harper’s mother, is the killer things take a wild turn. Hallucinations and visions of ghosts force her to look into the history of her family.

The tale will feature artwork from Valentina Pinti and colors from Chiara Di Francia and will release in the Spring of 2022.

As we get closer to the release we will do our best to keep you informed!
