Texas Renaissance Festival – 45th Annual Celebration of the Renaissance

This year marked the 45th annual celebration of the Texas Renaissance Festival. Located in Todd Mission, TX about 55 miles outside of Houston, the festival is a destination for medieval aficionados not only across the state of Texas but from across the country as well. Their wide variety of themed weekends truly have something to offer to everyone, and this year included Oktoberfest, 1001 Dreams, Pirate Adventure, All Hallows Eve, Return to Renaissance, Heroes and Villains, Barbarian Invasion, Highland Fling, and Celtic Christmas. It’s not too late to step back in time this 2019 season, as their Celtic Christmas will be taking place from November 29th through December 1st.

The Festival hosts many talented artists, with an array of bespoke creations to spark your imagination. Uncommon Adornments is one of those plucky vendors, working with 25 festivals across the United States. All of their pieces are solid sterling silver and have the option of being plated in 14 or 24k karat gold. Their works are all original designs and are handcrafted by their small team with a lost wax casting process. Their necklaces and earrings can also be set with several different stone options, with each design having up to 12 possible configurations. With unique creations coming out each year, there is always something new to discover with Uncommon Adornments.

Another of the jewelers of the Festival is BJ’s Twist o’ Fate. BJ and her charismatic apprentice Jen wire wrap their semi-precious gemstone collection by hand. With a wide selection of beautiful stones to choose from, including rare Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and “fordite”, made of polished automotive paint, you are sure to find something special. BJ has been wire wrapping for the past 20 years and has been working with the Festival for 12 of those years. She gets her collection of gemstones from local gem shows and makes sure they are from reliable sources. You can feel confident that you are not only supporting BJ’s, but that you are also getting ethically sourced jewelry with every purchase.

If you’re looking for fine leather goods and proper blacksmithed weaponry, Asgardian Armory has you covered. With leather satchels, bracers, helms, and pauldrons to name only a few of their leather products, you will be more than satisfied with their line up of Renaissance wear. Their weapons include period correct knives, swords, and axes, and each piece is hand made with high-quality steel. They partner with 3 forges for their works: Talon Forge, H&B Forge, and Baltimore Knife and Sword of Man at Arms Fame on YouTube. They can also provide custom leatherworks by preorder, which can be completed in 1 to 4 weeks. Their custom sword orders can take between 6 months to 3 years to complete depending on the complexity of the order. New this year is their copper dragon egg – mostly a display for their shop, the egg can be yours for an impressive price tag of $1,000.

The Texas Renaissance Festival also features a plethora of shows to keep you more than entertained. With all of the fantastic vendors, food, experiences, and of course mead, the Festival is a must-see for all ages.
