Wheels on our feet is not a new invention. We’ve had roller skates, skateboards, inline skates, and even the genius at Heelys shoes who hid a wheel in the shoe. So then why are we talking about Rollkers and their new shoe wheel tech?
Well, that is definitely an important question.
First and foremost, Rollkers is a device that you easily strap to the bottom of your shoes and is supposed to help you travel faster to your destination with nature walk-like posture in the process. What you do with the items before and after you use them is a question as they are the same size as your shoes.
The device is reminiscent of a conveyor belt, or tank tread in its design and it is specifically designed to allow you to walk with them and continue through the motion of your step. The problem however with them is that the walking pattern of a human is heel to toe, and that downward movement is not conductive of forward movement, so the steps do come off more as a slide step, which is not good for your back, and posture. It also can potentially cause you to slip, so a little bit of a learning curve will be needed.
But if I don’t like the device, why am I talking about it? Well, I didn’t say that I didn’t like it. The device will allow you to double your walking speed and move up to 7 mph with a 30-minute battery charge. They also are pretty light. There is no need to take them off when traversing stairs and they go out of their way due to their wide foot path to help with stability.
The last and most interesting thing about the Rollkers is that the device can be paired with your phone to deliver stats and information for your journeys. That can be very interesting.
