We Talk With Christopher Allen About iCleanse’s Swift UV

We all want a cleaner and safer world, but what are we doing to fight COVID-19, and create policies to prevent the next pandemic? Companies like iCleanse specifically work to create solutions to help fight contamination and disinfect items in business settings.

Now iCleanse has partnered with Athena Health Care to bring their patented UV-C Technology into Athena’s 51 nursing homes in the Northeast. Athena Health Care’s nursing homes provide short-term post-hospital care and rehabilitation for senior living. One such product for use in these facilities is the Swift UV freestanding phone cleaning system, which can be purchased Here.

We got the chance to talk to Christopher Allen, the CEO of iCleanse who acquired the company last year.

Eric Bryan Seuthe II: From the iGrill to the Swift system, it’s quite a difference, what drew your attention to the field in 2020 to acquire the iCleanse brand?

Christopher Allen: I sat on the board of ReadyDock for many years and in 2017 became an investor in the company. Then as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I really saw an opportunity to help a still struggling business grow and in so doing help more businesses.

Eric: Older generations on average, but not entirely, are less technologically savvy. How have you taken this into consideration with the Swift UV system?

Christopher: The entire Swift family of products are designed for simplicity and efficiency. All of our Swift products are efficient and effective in disinfecting items and devices and really require no technology expertise.

Eric: The device does seem like it’s designed for ease of use and is elegant and simple in its form. Do you find an outside person to the locations normal attendance would be able to easily glean the purpose of the device?

Christopher: The Swift UV is our new flagship device, and we feel that by adding the 10” display to this device we created a gamechanger. This screen gives us the ability to educate people as to what the device does and how it does it. This will create a higher level of engagement and education, two key factors when creating a new segment in the market.

Eric: While the device can be paired with a sanitizer station for added protection, the object will be used in a public space. What type of material is the item made from, and what has been done, or can be done, to prevent the device’s outside surface from itself spreading contagion?

Christopher: So, the Swift UV is made of steel, but regardless of the material the devices functionality is such that there are truly zero touch points for the user.

Eric: One thing we learned this last year regarding the general population is that constant, even though seemingly simple, can become political or even rejected after a period of use. Do you think that will apply to UV sanitization?

Christopher: Disinfection has been around for a long time and UV-C light being used to disinfect various items has been around for a number of years. The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened people’s awareness about how important disinfection is in this day and age. We see stronger and stronger adoption of these products and unfortunately, COVID-19 isn’t going away any time soon.

Eric: We all hope that one day COVID-19 will not be hanging over our heads, what benefit will these devices convey to their owners and their places of business once the pandemic has receded?

Christopher: Our products give businesses peace of mind when it comes to frequently used devices and items in the workplace. iCleanse products are here to disinfect devices, but they also keep customers and employees safe and healthy as it kills several other viruses like the Flu, common cold and MRSA.

Eric: With the Swift UV’s price tag of $1,495, this item is much higher than what a personal consumer would spend for an at-home UV cleaning box for their phone. What is the value provided by this device to justify such a higher price point?

Christopher: This device is for businesses that have a number of disinfection cycles they need to perform weekly or daily. Places like airports, warehouses, restaurants, schools and hospitals. Our Swift UV is a commercial-grade device that is built to last hundreds of thousands of cycles and still provide the same level of disinfection throughout its lifetime.

Eric: Thank you for your time, and we really hope to see more of your devices, and devices like them out and readily available for the general public as we all try to find ways to increase the odds of returning to a world we can recognize.
