Joey Chestnut is one of the most impressive and well known competitive eaters on the planet, I’m not here to start a fight with Kobayashi stans. Unfortunately, as a direct result of joining forces with Impossible Foods as an ambassador Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest blacklisted Chestnut from the event, stating that it was distracting from the main sponser.
While I disagree with their argument, I understand they are nervous… They should be. In a direct response Joey Chestnut and Impossible Foods decided to make lemonade out of lemons, what better a combo with Hot Dogs!
Joey Chestnut and Impossible Foods on the same day as the food contest, went to Fort Bliss and worked with four members of the 1st Armored Division to have a hot dog eating challenge, but not a contest. For each hot dog ate, Impossible Foods was going to donate $1,000! They, mostly Joey, ate 106 Hot Dogs in five minutes!
The donations went to benefit Operation Homefront, a nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of serving ill and injured veterans and their families since 2002. The whole purpose is to help soldiers “build strong, stable, and secure military families” so that they can benefit and “thrive in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.” The organization has an annual revenue of $40 million which it uses to help soldiers.
In a one day event, in which Impossible Foods feed quite a bit of dogs to four soldiers, and Joey Chestnut, raised $106,000 for the charity! If you want to support Operation Homefront, you can do so Here, hot dogs not included.
