Movies For The Week Of May 30, 2025

Bring Her Back – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 92%

A brother and sister, played by Jonah Wren Phillips and Mischa Heywood, move into a new foster home in a secluded home, run by their new foster parent, played by Sally Hawkins. However, when they stumble upon a ritual, and realize they are in more danger then they previously realized.

If you are interested in the occult, then this might be a fun movie for you to watch. If not, or are worried about children in danger, then you might want to skip this one.

Ghost Trial – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

After escaping torture in Syria, Hamid, played by Adam Bessa, takes refuge in France. There he works as a literature professor, while also secretly pursuing Assad regime’s enforcers who fled to Europe. They push the boundries of retribution into a world that feels more like Assad’s torture, but he is too obsessed with the hunt to stop now.

This reminds me a lot of the film Munich, and the strife that Eric Bana’s character went through as he sought vengence and the horrors began to infect his every day life. There is only so far a person can go before their horrors catch up to them.

Karate Kid Legends – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When Li, played by Ben Wang, moves to New York he begins a rivalry with a karate champion. To become better in martial arts he seeks guidence from Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan, and Daniel, Ralph Macchio, as they merge their unique styles to prepare him for a martial arts showdown.

This movie will merge the worls of Karate Kid, taking all the past worlds including the TV Series, and making them all in one world. I hoped that Chan’s character is related to Mr. Miyagi, but likely not, but it’s still great to see Chan and Macchio together in the world of Karate Kid.

The Phoenician Sceme – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 76%

Zsa-zsa Korda, played by Benicio Del Toro, is a wealthy business man, however as death seems to be close, with terrorists and assassins attempting to kill him, he recoonects with his daughter, a nun, played by Mia Threapleton, and informs her that she will be the heir to his estate. Now they go out to complete his business, as they continue to become targeted by those who would want to take him, and now her, out of the picture.

This is a Wes Anderson film, and as such is filled with wild characters and subtle off the wall comedy. If you are a fan you’ll notice the return of Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, and Willem Dafoe to fill out his cast.

The Wilde Girls – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Two socialite heiresses, played by Cali Scolari and Lydia Pearl Pentz, find themselves trapped in the wilderness with no skills and someone hunting them. Now they will have to work together and convince a hermit to help them, or they will fall pray to their hunter.

Set in 1932, this is technically a period piece, but also looks a little fun. If you are looking for a more indie film, with a kick, this one looks like it might be perfect for you.
