Storm King Comics, a division of Storm King Productions, was formed in 2012 with editor Sandy King and her husband John Carpenter. This company is a celebrated publisher of horror and science fiction comics, including John Carpenter’s Asylum, John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight, John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction, Dark & Twisted, John Carpenter’s Night Terrors, and John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids.
Now Storm King Comics is returning to Midsummer Scream, the world’s largest Halloween and horror convention on August 7, 2026 through August 9, 2026. At the event Storm King Comics will release CATHEDRAL, John Carpenter’s debut original graphic novel, co-authored with Sandy King, and the companion album of the same name.
CATHERDRAL is a horror story, taking place in an abandoned cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. A murder on the site leads to a mystery of centuries-old evil hidden within the catacombs of the building. The book is also co-written with Sean Sobczak, with illustrations by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna. The companion album, created by Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies can be enjoyed alone, or as a chapter-by-chapter score to the graphic novel.
CATHEDRAL, the graphic novel, will be published August 4, 2026 via Storm King Comics, while the album arrives on August 7, 2026 on Sacred Bones Records. This is the same day Midsummer Scream opens. The first 50 attendees who visit the Storm King booth and purchase the bundle, will get exclusive access credentials for the VIP Listening Party for the purchaser and guest. Following the initial hour, the room will open to all Midsummer Scream attendees to join the listening party for the remainder of the evening.
Additionally, at the convention Storm King Comics will be bringing these opportunities:
- A listening party for CATHEDRAL the album, kicking off with an exclusive VIP portion. The first hour (7pm-8pm) of the event is reserved strictly for a select group of pre-purchasers, featuring a special appearance by Storm King Comics CEO Sandy King.
- John Carpenter will appear at the Storm King Comics booth on the convention showfloor to sign copies of CATHEDRAL the graphic novel and album. Sandy King and additional Storm King talent will be on hand throughout the weekend.
- A deep-dive panel exploring the unsung artistry behind modern genre filmmaking. Moderated by Jim Branscome, feature panelist insights from Sandy King, Editor Jeremy Cohen, and Composer Samuel Jones.
