American Epic – Airing May 16th

Jack White & T Bone Burnett lead this amazing piece, showcasing the music of the 1920s, focusing on the works of that helped diversify the music industry. The radio helped take the power out of the industry and give it to the listeners. The tonal shift in the music industry allowed people of all places around the world to hear music that related closer to them, their lives and their style.
As American Epic states, this was the first time “America heard themselves”.
American Epic Sessions will showcases contemporary artists:
Alabama Shakes, The Americans, Ana Gabriel, Ashley Monroe, The Avett Brothers, Beck, Bettye LaVette, Bobby Ingano, Elton John, Frank Fairfield, Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, Los Lobos, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Nas, Pokey LaFarge, Raphael Saadiq, Rhiannon Giddens, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Taj Mahal, and Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.
Using the artists of today, American Epic, replicates this early recording process on an original 1920s electrical recording system. This allows the artists of today to pay tribute to those great artists of the past, that helped pave the way.
PBS and BBC Arena announced today that the AMERICAN EPIC three-part historical documentary will air in the U.S. on PBS on Tuesdays May 16, 23 and 30 at 9 p.m.
In the U.K. the episodes will air on BBC in May. THE AMERICAN EPIC SESSIONS will air in the U.S. on PBS on Tuesday, June 6 at 8 p.m. (check local listings) and in the U.K. on BBC in June.
To get people ready for the documentary and music sessions, on May 12th Sony will release a companion soundtrack, 100-song box set of recordings from the 1920s and 1930s.
As for the new music performed, Columbia Records will release the performances performed in THE AMERICAN EPIC SESSIONS.
Jack White & Third Man Records will release THE AMERICAN EPIC SESSIONS soundtrack and a selection of AMERICAN EPIC archival recordings from the series on vinyl.
