CES 2023 – Withings U-Scan Checks Your Pee!

This isn’t the first time that we’ve covered urine analyzation technology, Withings is now getting into the field, and has created a unique way of collecting and analyzing the sample.

A collection device is installed inside your toilet and is physically designed to catch urine as it processes it while also ignoring regular water from flushes. This specific setup prevents you from having to use your hands with the device for the majority of the process once you’ve installed it, and until you have to replace the cartridge around a month or so later.

The U-Scan also has a choice of three different cartridges being made available by Withings.

The first option is NutriBalance which scans the nutritional levels inside your urine and tells you what is missing from your diet, makes suggestions, and attempts to help you correct any imbalances in your body.

The second is ForProfessionals. This module is designed to help you and medical professionals track your health and is a highly useful tool when recovering from surgery, or if you have organ issues that need to be closely monitored by a professional.

The last is unfortunately the more controversial of the three, CycleSync. This module will specifically track your hormones and ovulation process to give you the most up-to-date and clearest way of tracking your period. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our current political landscape a big fear, for females, is this data being used against them if they suffer a miscarriage or get an abortion. With data security in mind, we talk to the people at Withings specifically about where they store their data. They say that the data is not stored in the USA, and that they are dealing with a similar legal situation in France. They understand the plight of women in the USA and will keep their personal information safe.

Lastly, one major drawback of this unit, for men, is that due to its placement in the bowl, it is not designed to work with men who pee standing up. It can still work for men, but if you would like to track your urine metrics, you will specifically have to sit down to urinate.

This product will be available on the markets hopefully later this year, as they are currently dealing with FDA and are requesting approval due to the device’s nature of health tech.
