Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of August 4, 2023

The Collective – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When a group of assassins try to take out a ring of human traffickers, they unbenonst place themselves in the crosshairs of untouchable and unscrupulous wealthy elite. With everything on the line, the group must turn to their rookie assassin, played by Sam Alexander, to take on the task.

I’m definitely worried that this might be another one of this sounds of freedom movies, but the idea of this film doesn’t seem too horrible, and with the results of Jeffrey Epstein still fresh in the world, billionaire human trafficking is very likely to be real. However, there are some real trigger subjects in this film.

Corner Office – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 17%

Orson, played by Jon Hamm, went from being a big fish, to a peon in a new company. It takes a while to adapt until he discovers an unused corner office that seems to help him get his groove back. However, what turns out to be a boon, ends up being something more confusing, as everyone else around the office can’t see the office, and when Orson is in the office, he appears to be standing still in the hallway. When reality comes clashing back, he has to decide between harsh realities and wild fantasies.

This looks like a very interested film, and seems to borrow a lot from Severence’s style and themes. It also has the amazing acting talent of Danny Pudi and Sarah Gadon. If you are looking for an interesting thriller with a twing of comedy, then you’ll love this one.

Passages – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 90%

Tomas and Martin, played by Franz Rogowski and Ben Whishaw, are in a committed marriage, until Tomas begins to have an affair with a woman, played by Adèle Exarchopoulos.

This is an incredibly french film that touches on the mentality of love, sadness, and what relationships and the sacrifices we make. It’s a bit heavy handed, but people seem to like it to a degree.

Shortcomings – Releasing in Limited Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 80%

Ben, played by Justin H. Min, is a struggling filmmaker whose life is turned upside down when his girlfriend Miko, played by Ally Maki, moves to New York chasing her dream. While he spent his days working for a film festival, obsessing over movies, he is now forced to find out what he really wants in life.

If you have ever felt like you were treading water, and are struggling to find your way, then you will be able to connect with Ben and share his journey as he does the exact same thing.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

The Turtles strike out to find their place in New York, and with their help of their friend April O’Neil, take on an army of mutants, standing out above the likes of them and their evil crime sydicate leaders.

This feels like it has a lot of the original cartoon energy. The child voice actors also give the film a lot more of a teenage energy that is well needed. I also need to solute the casting of Jackie Chan as Splinter.
